Total costs is the sum of fees and trading costs charged across all orders. It is money that leaves your edge before you see net P&L.
Simple example
Gross profit before fees: +$600
Total costs: $85
Net P&L ≈ +$515
A strategy that looks good gross can be mediocre net if costs are high.
Why it matters
High-frequency automations on expensive venues can bleed fees. Always compare ROI after costs (dogabot P&L is net of costs in live tracking).
On dogabot
Total costs appears in Key Metrics (Pro) on the automation page.
Quick checklist
- Rising volume + flat ROI → check costs first
- Paper trade to estimate fee drag before going live
- Pick liquid pairs on markets
