The FRED Series rule turns a U.S. macro series from FRED (the data service of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis) into buy or sell signals on your automation’s market. It fires the side you pick while the latest reading meets your compare and threshold. To use the same data only as a yes/no check on another rule, use the FRED Series Gate filter.
When to use it
- Lean long when financial conditions (NFCI) are loose, or short when they tighten
- Sell risk when the broad dollar index (DTWEXBGS) is above a level you set
- Trade a regime view on rates: buy or sell when DGS10 or the Fed funds rate crosses your level
- Combine with stop loss and take profit so macro entries still have risk limits
What you’ll set in the app
Add FRED macro series under entry, exit, increase, decrease, or reversal rules (and optionally as a directional filter).
- Series: one of six series
- Compare and Threshold: fire when the latest reading is above, below, at least, at most, or equal to your level
- Max stale days: how old the latest reading may be before dogabot treats it as missing
- Side when true: buy or sell when the condition holds
Tips
- The data changes slowly, so the condition can hold for many candles in a row. Use exits, a stop loss, or a take profit instead of relying on the rule to flip by itself.
- Check the units before you set a level: DFF, DGS10 and T10Y2Y are in percent, NFCI and DTWEXBGS are index points, WALCL is in millions of USD.
- Start with a backtest, then try paper trading before you risk real money.
Example
Entry: FRED series NFCI, compare Value ≤, threshold 0, side buy, max stale days 10. When the Chicago Fed index reads at or below 0 (looser than average conditions), the rule signals a buy. Exits use a 3% stop loss and a 6% take profit. The example is illustrative, not a measured result.
