The Percentile Rank filter is a pass/block gate. It ranks the latest close, 1-bar return, volume, ATR %, or RSI among the last N values and passes when that rank (0–100) is above or below your threshold.
Use it to trade only near recent highs/lows or only when the latest return is in an extreme percentile—without inventing customLogic.
When to use it
- Allow longs only when price is near lookback highs (or shorts near lows)
- Gate entries on extreme one-bar returns
- Combine with indicators so the main signal still needs a percentile confirmation
What you’ll set in the app
Add Percentile rank under filters.
- Metric — close, 1-bar return, volume, ATR %, or RSI
- Lookback bars — ranking window (default 50)
- Period — for ATR % / RSI (default 14)
- Percentile (0–100) — threshold (default 80)
- Condition — above or below
Short history fails closed (blocks). Disabled passes.
Tips
- Threshold 80 + condition above ≈ “near the top of the window.”
- For near-lows, try condition below with a low threshold (e.g. 20).
- Metric return ranks the size of the latest move, not the price level—useful alongside Return Z-Score.
- Metrics volume, ATR %, and RSI rank those series in the same lookback; set Period for ATR % and RSI.
Example
Entry filters: Percentile rank, metric close, lookback 50, threshold 80, condition above. A trend-following long only passes when price is in the top 20% of the last 50 closes.
