The ADX Gate filter is a pass/block gate on Wilder ADX strength only. When ADX meets your compare condition against a threshold, the filter passes; otherwise it blocks. It never fires a buy or sell by itself and it does not use +DI/−DI to pick a side.
Use it when other rules choose direction and you only want trades while the market is strong enough (or quiet enough). Prefer the ADX rule when ADX plus directional indicators should emit the buy or sell themselves.
When to use it
- Only allow trend entries while ADX stays at or above 25
- Block new risk when ADX collapses into a quiet range
- Confirm a trending regime without forcing the filter to agree on side
What you’ll set in the app
Add ADX gate under filters.
- Period — Wilder smoothing period (default 14)
- Compare — ADX >, <, ≥, ≤, or ≈
- Threshold — e.g.
25(default)
Warm-up history blocks the gate. Disabled passes.
Tips
- Defaults use ADX ≥ 25 — a common “trend on” cut.
- There is no “side when true”—pair with RSI, breakout, or other signal rules for direction.
- For a directional ADX signal (+DI/−DI), use ADX instead.
Example
Entry filters: ADX gate, period 14, ADX ≥ 25. A breakout long only passes when recent ADX shows a trending regime.
