The FRED Series Gate is a gate filter that checks a U.S. macro series from FRED (the data service of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis) before a pending signal is allowed. Use it when rates, the dollar, or financial conditions should qualify another rule (RSI, crossover, …), not when the macro level alone should buy or sell — that is the FRED Series signal rule.
When to use it
- Allow long entries only while the Fed funds rate is below a level you choose
- Block trend entries while the 10Y–2Y Treasury spread is inverted
- Skip risk-on setups when financial conditions (NFCI) are tight
- Pair with Funding Rate Threshold or UTC Time Window for a macro plus market-structure filter
What you’ll set in the app
Attach FRED series gate under filters for entry, increase, reversal, or exit.
- Series: one of six series
- Compare and Threshold: pass when the latest reading is above, below, at least, at most, or equal to your level
- Max stale days: how old the latest reading may be before dogabot treats it as missing. Daily series need a small number; weekly ones need more.
Tips
- Macro series move slowly. A gate that passes today usually passes for days, so treat it as a regime filter, not a timing tool.
- Check the units before you set a level: DFF, DGS10 and T10Y2Y are in percent, NFCI and DTWEXBGS are index points, WALCL is in millions of USD.
- A backtest shows how often the gate blocks. If it almost never passes, move the threshold or loosen the compare before dropping the idea.
Example
Entry filters: FRED series gate on DFF, compare Value ≤, threshold 4.5, max stale days 7. Entry rules: RSI oversold. A pending buy only goes through when the Fed funds rate is at or below 4.5% and RSI agrees. The example is illustrative, not a measured result.
